Staying in a homestay provides a valuable opportunity to become integrated into Oxford life like a local. Students benefit from the opportunity to practise speaking English in a natural, informal setting. No other students who speak the same language are placed in the family which maximises the time students spend interacting with their hosts. Bonding with local people in this way ensures students feel as if Oxford is also their home.
We advise students of their homestay address no later than 1 week before the start of the course. All homestays are thoroughly inspected and their credentials checked. We visit each host family to ensure that the highest standards are maintained, and we keep in close contact with the family during the student’s stay.
Most host families live in residential areas around the city, with easy access to the school. There is internet available in the homes of most of our hosts. There is also free Wi-Fi at the school. Arrival is on the Sunday before the start of the course and departure is on the Saturday after the last day of the course.
Homestay accommodation is in a single room, and rooms with a private bathroom are available for an additional supplement. Each room is fully furnished with a bed, linen and storage space. There is a desk in the room or a quiet space in the house for homework. Some hosts will provide a key for the duration of the stay, other may provide a key at certain times.
The host also provides breakfast and an evening meal. The evening meal is usually eaten with the family and is a good opportunity to practise English. Please let the school know about any allergies or dietary requirements as early as possible so that a host can be found to match the requirements.
